SWABI: Teachers of the public educational institutions on Thursday decided that they would stay away from \”Sehat ka Insaf\” programme for polio immunization by the provincial government.
In a related development it was learnt that the Lady Health Workers (LHWs) said that they would not perform duty with men.
The first anti-polio campaign is scheduled to be held in the district on April 6, followed by another campaign on April 13 and the last drive has been planned to be carried out on April 20.
The teachers gathered in Government Middle School Swabi and marched from there to the district headquarter.
They were led by All Teacher Association (ATA) by District President Abdul Latif and Vice President Ijaz Khan. They met with assistant commissioner and apprised him about the situation.
Security for polio staff: DPO
Provision of security to polio campaigners across the district was discussed in the meeting held on Thursday at the DPO\’s office.
The meeting was attended DIG Mardan Said Wazir, DPO Sajjad Khan, Dr Yaqub, EPI in charge Dr Liaquat, PTI District President Anwar Haq Dad Khan, DSPs of four tehsils, SHOs of all police stations and president of district Jirga Sabaz Ali Shah Bacha.
Participants support the drive and vowed to play their due role. Wazir said that policemen would be on duty on April 6 and the other two days selected for the anti-polio campaign in Swabi, Mardan and Charsadda. Some of the police staff would be deployed from Nowshera district to the three districts on the campaign day while providing fool proof security to the vaccinators.
