The Green league 2011: which universities are top of the class?

Nottingham Trent has been named the greenest University in the UK by the People & Planet Green League 2011.

Nottingham Trent has been named the greenest university in the UK according to the green league published exclusively by the Guardian today.

The People & Planet Green League 2011 assessed the environmental and ethical performance of 142 universities, scoring them on their actions and attitudes towards a green living.

Gloucestershire, Worcester and Plymouth followed closely behind, all earning a First Class degree (awards are given after scores have been collated) for their efforts. Bournemouth University and the University of Greenwich tied at fifth place after considerable improvements in score from last year - Bournemouth came in at 20th place and Greenwich at 61 in the previous league.

Bottom of the class are Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln and Ravensbourne with scores of 11 and 8.5 respectively. Nottingham Trent, ranked highest with a score of 53.5. A guide on how to read the league table can be found here.

A full explanation of the methodology behind the league can be found on the People & Planet web site.

Those institutions that failed to complete the questionnaire at all or provide any information under the FOI request used to collect the data were given a 'fail' and ranked as 'did not sit exam'.
