The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued separate notices to nine medical and dental colleges countrywide for not owning a hospital.

Anti-polio drops to 44,399 children

The Islamabad Capital Territory administration’s District Health Department has planned to administer anti-polio drops to 44,399 children in eight targeted union councils in the city’s rural areas during the next sub-national immunisation days (SNIDs) from June 4 to June 7.

GHALANAI, May 30: Another government school was blown up by suspected militants at Sandukhel area early on Wednesday.

Higher Education Commission HEC likely to get Rs48.5 billion in next fiscal year budget 2012-2013

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is likely to receive an allocation of Rs48.5 billion in the annual budget for the next fiscal year 2012-2013 compared to Rs26 billion received in the current fiscal year 2011-2012.

 

Credible sources in the HEC told ‘The News’ here Wednesday, that out of the total allocation being made in the budget for next fiscal year, an amount of Rs15.8 billion has been earmarked for developmental schemes to be carried out under PSDP.

Budget 2012-13 No target achieved: Pakistan Economic Survey 2011-12

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Economic Survey 2011-12 revealed that none of the economic targets set by the government were achieved, Geo News reported.

A day out to Gaddani beach turned into tragedy for six picnickers on Wednesday as only three of them survived drowning in sea. HONG KONG: Chinese oil and gas company, United Energy Group Ltd said on Wednesday it plans to invest $3 billion in a wind farm project in energy-starved Pakistan and is in talks to buy equipment from mainland suppliers.

Jamaat e Islami (JI) proposes tax reforms for budget

To overcome the deficit, Jamaat e Islami (JI) has proposed multi-faceted tax reforms to increase taxpayers’ number by five million and the revenue by one trillion rupees in the next budget.

 

The JI proposed reducing the sales tax rate to one per cent and levying 75 per cent taxes directly (income tax). Only 25 per cent taxes should be made indirectly (sales tax, customs and excise duties etc.), in order to broaden the tax net, it suggested.
