Jamaat e Islami (JI) proposes tax reforms for budget

To overcome the deficit, Jamaat e Islami (JI) has proposed multi-faceted tax reforms to increase taxpayers’ number by five million and the revenue by one trillion rupees in the next budget.

 

The JI proposed reducing the sales tax rate to one per cent and levying 75 per cent taxes directly (income tax). Only 25 per cent taxes should be made indirectly (sales tax, customs and excise duties etc.), in order to broaden the tax net, it suggested.
