The Learning Network: Found Poem Favorite | 'Broken Record'

We received more than 650 submissions to our April Found Poem Challenge for students, and, though it was agonizing to choose among them, we’ve selected 10 favorites.

Today through June 13, we’ll publish one poem each weekday, in order of submission. On June 13, we’ll also publish a list of the many close contenders.

Today’s poem comes from Mo, who is 18 and lives in Leimert Park, Calif. It is, we think, a particularly fitting poem to publish first.

Broken Record

Last year started off being about one thing, then ended
up being about another.
This year will be the same.
Let the cutting and pasting begin!
Let the cutting and pasting begin!
Let the pasting begin!
(cutting)
We loved the surprises, something new.
What are the rules?
Make us see something in a new way.
Make us.
In a new way.
See something.
