ISLAMABAD: The violation of rules and inefficient management by Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Masoom Yasinzai and Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Quaid-e-Azam Post Graduate Medical College of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), working under QAU, have crated resentment among employees and students of both the institutions, Daily Times learnt on Wednesday.
According to sources, the QAU VC’s wife is colleague of Faculty of Medicine’s Dean Dr Ghazala Mehmood. She id heading the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) of PIMS due to which the Dean and VC not only try to ignore the mistakes of each other but continue to violate the rules and regulations.
The VC has not only appointed at least four officers by creating new jobs but also promoted a senior officer of QAU from grade 20 to grade 21 during his probation period setting a precedent. On the other hand, the QAU syndicate has changed the pattern of exams for the students of Quaid-e-Azam Post Graduate Medical College and did not exempted even those students who got admission some five years back. As the result the old students suffered. They are of the view that the changed pattern should have been for the new students.
They said cases of sexual harassment of the QAU female students were also on the rise, which showed that the present management of the university had failed to control the faculty and students. They said there was no check on the staff and the students because during the tenure of current VC the students clashed with each other a number of times and the management had to close the hostel and announce holidays in the university.
They said the management of the QAU created a post of Assistant Registrar Legal (ARL) in the university and appointed Samiullah, brother-in-law of Registrar Dr Shafiqur Rehman as ARL. A retired colonel was appointed on contract basis as Campus Manager, Mr Sabhee was appointed as Planning Director and Zia Akhtar was appointed as Treasurer by creating new posts putting extra burden on funds.
An officer of QAU requesting not to be named said that the VC’s wife Dr Kausar Masoom was Senior Registrar in MCH and she had very good relations with Dr Ghazala. He said in such a situation Dr Ghazala could not refuse or stand against the decisions of the VC and vice versa.
An officer of PIMS on condition of anonymity said that Ghazala had been continuously violating rules and misuse of her status. He alleged that Ghazala’s husband Haleem Mehmood was former Secretary Finance, retired as OSD and he had got allotted G-type house number G-22 on Hakim Luqman Road in sector G-6/3. Later, when he retired and PIMS officers got entitlement to allot a government accommodation the said house was allotted to Dr Ghazala who is living in sector F-10 and running her private hospital in the government accommodation, which is not only illegal but also injustice to the other government employees waiting for the government accommodation.
A senior paramedic said Dr Ghazala was also involved in injuring a paramedic by hitting him with her car when the paramedics were protesting against her. Later on the incident became an issue and in the end Ghazala was removed from the seat of executive director (ED), but again her close relations with the VC’s wife she is creating problems for others.Daily Times.
