Court issues notices to state in UET test leak case

LAHORE: Special Judge Anti-Corruption Mehboob Qadir Shah on Saturday issued notices to the state for August 11 on bail applications filed by five persons allegedly involved in leaking entrance test paper of the University of Engineering & Technology (UET).

The Anti-Corruption Establishment had arrested eight persons and all of them were in jail on judicial remand. Five accused, namely Muhammad Ashraf, Usman Ahmed, Hafiz Abu Bakar, Ahsan Murtaza and Shujauddin, had filed bail application in the court contending that the allegations levelled against them of their involvement in entrance test paper leak had nothing to do with reality.

They said they had been implicated in a fake case. While Shujauddin implored the court that he ran an internet cafÈ but was involved in fake case for sending emails to two different IDs from his email address although it was his business.

At this, the court has issued notice to state for arguments.

Previously, Judicial Magistrate Noor Muhammad Dhothar had sent accused Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Anees and Shujauddin, Asif Naseer, Ahsan Murtaza, Farooq Ali, Usman Ahmed and Hafiz Abu Bakar to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

As per case details, police had initially arrested three accused in the case. Later, five more were arrested by Gujjarpurra police. The UET security in-charge, in a complaint, had claimed that Anees and his accomplices Shujauddin and Ashraf were involved in stealing and leaking entrance test papers.

Police, responding to his complaint, had registered a case No 848/11 under sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant) and 109 (abetment) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).The news.
