FAISALABAD: The city administration, educationalists and doctors will expedite work on transferring knowledge into service by taking all segments of society to address various issues, including water, energy and diseases, confronting the common man.
This was vowed during a meeting held at the Faisalabad Research Forum at New Senate Hall, University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Wednesday. Commissioner Tahir Hussain presided over the meeting while UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmed Khan and Punjab Medical College Principal Riaz Hussain Dab were guests of honour on the occasion. The meeting agreed to take industrials into confidence and extend the services of researchers to them not only for the uplift of the industries but also for the development of the country.
The commissioner stressed the need to involve educationists in projects related to the common man for the welfare of the society. He said that at the time of devastating floods that killed scores of people and made millions homeless, the city administration generated resources with the help of various institutions, including UAF and PMC. He urged the scientists and researchers to produce tangible researches that will bring positive changes in the lives of masses. Briefing the meting, the UAF VC said the university wanted to narrow the gap between state-of-the-art knowledge and traditional farming by educating the farmers. “An outreach programme is being run by the university.”
He said the university was being ranked among the top four universities of the country as it was competing the Punjab University, the Quaid-e-Azam University and Karachi University. He said despite financial constraints, the university had completed 132 projects in 2009-10 while 236 projects in 2010-11. He said that the university was working on 160 projects and their number would go up. He said the university had strong links with various universities across the globe, including United Kingdom, United States, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and others. He said that with an aim to equip the youth with modern knowledge, the university was starting various programmes, including agricultural business, biotechnology, microbiology, environmental sciences and others. He said that in 2011, the university produced 309 research papers.
Riaz Hussain said that he had attended Islamic countries Medical University Network to strengthen the ties with other countries and it was great honour that Pakistan had become the focal country of the network this year. He offered the UAF students to get training at the hospitals and the college. The same offer was also given by the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology for the UAF students. The chiefs of different research institutes and UAF deans and directors were also participated.
UAF, NTS SIGN MOU FOR ENTRY TEST: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Veterinary Science, University of Agriculture Faisalabad and National Testing Service, Islamabad was inked to conduct the entry test for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Programme, UAF to be held on August 26 at the university campus.
The forms can be had from the NTS website after paying a fee of Rs 600. Faculty of Veterinary Science Dean Prof Dr Laeeq Lodhi and Punjab NTS Regional Coordinator Majid Sultan Bhatti inked the MoU. UAF VC Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmed Khan and Director External Linkages Prof Dr Ashfaq Ahmed were also present.Daily Times.
