LAHORE: Unidentified people on Tuesday fired at the house of Punjab University Physics Departmentís chairman Prof Dr Shaukat Ali, who is also a member of the varsity syndicate and the disciplinary committee. One of the bullets pierced the main gate and hit the drawing room.
According to a PU spokesman, the disciplinary committee called Ibrar Wattoo of Law College for personal hearing for being involved in illegal activities and he reportedly came with his 20-25 supporters to attend the proceedings.
Later, two masked motorcyclists fired at Dr Shaukat Aliís house and guards Mahmood and Waheed, who were standing outside the house, tried to nab the culprits but they sped away. They were carrying a silver pistol.
Ibrar Wattoo was an activist of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT). PU Resident Officer (RO-I) Javed Sami alleged Ibrar Watto was armed when he appeared before the Disciplinary Committee, saying when he and security staff reached there, he had escaped. He also confirmed Wattoo to be a member of the IJT.
The PU spokesman said PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran had condemned the firing incident and contacted IGP Javed Iqbal to take immediate action against the culprits involved. The IGP had issued instructions to the DSP Muslim Town to take immediate action.The news.
