LAHORE: A large number of public college teachers on Saturday held a demonstration strongly criticized the Punjab government for posting male and female teachers at colleges in the far-flung areas of the province.
The protesting teachers including male and female, some of whom were also accompanied by their children, gathered outside the Lahore Press Club and strongly agitated against the recent postings after promotion to next grades.
While carrying banners and placards, they also chanted slogans against the government and officials of the Higher Education Department Punjab and demanded the government stop the injustice in the wake of prevailing law and order situation and ever increasing inflation.
A protestor, Prof Nazim, told The News that the government had promoted college teachers almost after two decades in next grades, adding, however, they were being victimised by posting them in the far-flung areas. He said many of the teachers, especially females, from Lahore, who had served in the City for many years, were abruptly posted in the far-flung areas.
The protestors were of the view that in many of the areas, there was acute shortage of hostels and other residential facilities while serving in such places was also difficult for female teachers. They said the abrupt orders of the government had caused unrest among their families as well. They also criticized the authorities for recent promotion policy and demanded the government to revert the same in the interest of teachers.The news.
