LAHORE, Aug 7: While the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has just sent the result cards to candidates, long queues are seen at board offices as the candidates are coming for the rectification of their results.
Most candidates are coming with the apprehension that the “computer mistakes” might have played havoc with their future.
Though a large number of candidates are applying for re-checking of their papers and posting of marks on their result cards, the board officials admit that around 200 candidates are daily visiting and applying for re-checking of their scripts. So far, around 1,000 candidates have applied for re-checking.
Candidates told Dawn that there were probably computer reading mistakes as those earning A and A+ grades were scoring zero, 10 or 12 marks in other papers.
“This situation created doubts in the minds of students and they are applying for re-checking in large numbers,” a candidate standing in the queue said.
Another candidate said a student was supposed to pay a fee of Rs700 per paper re-checking and many a students would not be able to apply for re-checking for not having spare money.
A board official told Dawn that in 30 per cent cases, wrong marks had been posted on result cards. He said the board itself was also working on rectification of results that went wrong due to optical reading problems.
Meanwhile, the board has also developed a proforma and given to candidates, who have got zero mark posted on their result cards, for the rectification of their results. A candidate suggested that the board administration must counter-check the results and correct result cards on its own.
When contacted, BISE controller of examinations Prof Manzurul Hassan Niazi said the computerised system was in its initial phases. “Wherever, the board has found errors, it has rectified and printed result cards afterwards.” He said the results were uploaded soon after the declaration of results on Tuesday morning and had started printing result cards after comparing with the results available on hard copy.
Answering a question, he admitted that there were cases, where objective questions’ marks were posted, while subjective questions’ scores were not posted or vice versa. “When there is a board’s mistake at any level, it refunds the re-checking fee to candidates,” he added.Dawan News,
