Three convicted in textbook board scam

PESHAWAR: An anti-corruption court on Friday sentenced deputy secretary of the Textbook Board Peshawar, managing director of Sindh Enterprises and Suppliers and a storekeeper on charges of misappropriation in the purchase of stationery paper for the board.
The Anti-Corruption Court Judge, Azhar Khan awarded eight years jail sentence to deputy secretary Textbook Board, Abdur Rahim and fined him Rs4 million. The managing director of the Sindh Enterprises and Suppliers was awarded eight years in prison and fined Rs5 million while storekeeper Jehanzeb was sentenced to five years jail with a fine of Rs1.5 million.

After announcing the decision, the judge directed the police to send the three accused to the Central Prison Peshawar handcuffed. During the course of hearing, Public Prosecutor Abadur Rehman informed the court that the three accused had bought 35,000 metric tonnes substandard stationery paper for the Peshawar board in 2002 and embezzled Rs24,751,000. He said the anti-corruption police unearthed the case and registered the first information report against the accused under sections 419, 420, 468, 471 and 5(2) of the Anti-Corruption Act.The news.
