Three held for killing teacher

LAHORE,August 1: The Gujjarpura police arrested on Sunday three people who allegedly killed a 43-year-old teacher by injecting poison and burned down his body in B-1 Block of China Scheme on Saturday night.

One of the suspects initially got acquaintance with Kashif Sohail, who taught at a Shadbagh institution and lived alone in his house after returning from New Zealand in 2005, and hatched a conspiracy to occupy his house. They had planned to bury the body in China Scheme’s main graveyard on Sunday night before getting away from the area.

SHO Ishtiaq Ahmad told Dawn that a police team acted on a tip-off from a citizen that suspicious activities were taking place in adjacent house since Saturday night.

He said the police raided the house at about 3pm and took three suspects, Ejaz Riaz, of A-1, China Scheme, Muhammad Asif, of Scheme No 2, Wasanpura, and Sadaqat Hussain, of Chaklala, into custody and seized Sohail’s charred body.

He said the suspects admitted that they first gave Sohail a sedative in fruit juice and then a lethal injection. They later shrouded Sohail under a quilt and set him ablaze apparently with an aim to destroy the evidence and conceal their crime.

The suspects wanted selling his house and fleeing abroad and for this purpose they had also obtained thumb impression of the victim on a stamp paper in order to get occupation of the house.

The SHO said that Riaz first developed relations with Sohail, who never married, and planned his murder in connivance with his cousin Asif and friend Sadaqat.

The SHO said the body had been sent for autopsy and a case had been registered on the complaint of Sohail’s brother Javed.Dawn.
