Karachi:The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has approved a grant of $155 million for the education sector in Sindh.
This grant will be used to upgrade the schools located in the flood-affected areas of the province, Secretary Education Mohammad Siddique Memon said on Monday.
The Education Department had decided that the amount would be spent on the reconstruction of most of the flood-affected schools’ buildings, buying new furniture and other developing projects, he said.
The education sector, especially the graph of teaching at public-run schools, decreased because the previous government had appointed teachers who were less concerned about their jobs, he claimed.
Civil society, parents, and other important elements of society had to play their due roles in increasing the standard of education in Sindh, Memon further said.
“It is my request to the people to help the government increase the ratio of education among girls in the rural areas.”
The education secretary said that due to devolution, the directorate of inspection and monitoring, schools department, became ineffective, which was one of the major reasons that the graph of education had decreased in the province.
The Education Department was trying to make it effective because it was the only department that could help in keeping checks and balances on the schools, he said. There, he said, was a need to improve the standard of basic and primary education. The news.
