The governor of Florida, Rick Scott, announced his selection for an open seat on the state board of education cabinet this week
Reporting at TampaBay.com’s “Gradebook” blog, Jeff Solochek reports on the recent announcement from the office of Florida governor, Rick Scott, that Gov. Scott has made a choice to fill an empty spot on the state’s education board.
Gov. Rick Scott has named health care executive Barbara Feingold, a vice president of MCNA Health Care Holdings LLC, to replace Susan Story on the Florida Board of Education.
Story resigned to take a job out of state.
Ms. Feingold, who is 50 and resides in Delray Beach, is a former speech and language pathologist in Broward County. This week, the Governor’s Press Office released this statement.
“Feingold has firsthand experience working with Florida’s education system. In this role, she worked with elementary and middle school children, as well as with children having delayed development, mental retardation and Down syndrome. Previously, she also served as a school speech pathologist in Newark, New Jersey.
At Dentaland and MCNA, Feingold has fostered a corporate culture of community involvement through service with non-profit organizations. She sits on the board of directors for the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and the Ruth Rales Jewish Family Center. She is also a vice president of the Levis Jewish Community Center where she helped develop a program for children with special needs. During her term as president of the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center in North Miami Beach, she helped create remediation programs for children, as well as an infant day care center.
Feingold received her bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University.”
The Feingold nomination, which is considered all but secure, is still technically subject to a confirmation process that will be conducted by the Florida State Senate. Feingold’s appointment would last until at least December 2013. Gov. Scott still has one more vacancy to fill on the board, and plans to do so this fall.
