Rawalpindi:The International Islamic Medical College Trust (IIMCT), clearing its position with regard to the allegations levelled by the Pakistan Railways and subsequent inquiry into the allegations, has claimed that it has upgraded the Railway Hospital, Rawalpindi.
Sharing details of its report in response to the allegations, IIMCT Manager Mohammad Naseer told ‘The News’
that the Railway Hospital
had the capacity of 100 beds for inpatient treatment
along with OPD, but facilities were either not in use or locked.
There were only two specialists, one dentist, 13 medical officers, 15 staff nurses, one laboratory technician and 2 X-ray technicians.
Because of unavailability of specialised treatment, patients were mostly referred to
other hospitals for treatment, which was a huge burden on the Pakistan Railways
budget.
The hospital was affiliated with the International Islamic Medical College Trust on August 17, 1998 as a teaching hospital.
The hospital, which used to work as a primary healthcare facility, has now acquired the status of a tertiary care hospital. After its affiliation with the IIMCT, it has now the capacity of 400 beds and got the status of a teaching hospital recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP), not only for undergraduate but also for postgraduate training, he claimed.
“We have also been at the forefront to share the burden of the hospital during natural disasters and calamities
like the 2005 earthquake,
IDP crisis of 2009 and the devastating floods of 2010,” he added.
He said that now the hospital has seasoned professors and experienced clinicians, including 16 professors, eight associate professors, 28 assistant professors, 11 senior registrars, 13 registrars, 46 postgraduate medical officers,
two dentists, two clinical
pharmacists and 40 house officers.
