LAHORE: Around five to seven unidentified boys, on Monday, manhandled an IJT activist, Ahmad Rathor, and ran away after conducting aerial firing in the corridors of College of Mathematics and Actuarial Sciences, New Campus, Punjab University (PU), Daily Times learnt. According to sources, IJT activist Ahmad Rathor was standing next to the garden of the college when some unidentified boys captured and started hitting him with a chair. The sources claim that the incident could be in response to the recent incident where some IJT activists thrashed a student of the Philosophy Department for sitting with his female class fellow. Philosophy Department’s professors and students staged a protest rally against the hooliganism, while the IJT activists also came up in large numbers, chanting slogans in favour of what they said “promotion” of Islamic values and abolishment of vulgarity. The sources said that Monday’s incident could be a revenge in the wake of recent tension between Philosophy students and IJT activists. Although, the sources said, there had been a reconciliation between PU Philosophy Department Head Professor Dr Sajid Ali and IJT leaders on account of IJT’s claim that the attack was an “individual act”, it had nothing to do with the decision of the student faction.Daily Times.
