Modern Pakistani poetry introduced

Islamabad: Translation editor Waqas Khwaja introduced Modern Poetry of Pakistan, the first anthology of its kind in English in a book entitled “Pakistani Poetry in Translation: Building Bridges Across Cultural and Linguistic Divides” here on Monday.
The collection brings together 146 poems translated from seven of the country’s major languages (Baluchi, Kashmiri, Panjabi, Pashto, Seraiki, Sindhi, and Urdu). The book represents a broad range of ethnic, class and political differentiations combined to form a beautiful and truly national literature showcasing translations of poetry, both classical and modern, by forty-four poets belonging to a multidimensional culture reflecting shared concerns as well as individually distinct perceptions. Brief remarks on the translation process will be followed by readings, some by poets from original works and translations.

Waqas Khwaja, Professor of English at Agnes Scott College in the United States, where he teaches courses in Victorian, Romantic, and Postcolonial literature as well as in poetry writing, has published three collections of original poetry and several edited anthologies of Pakistani literature in translation apart from numerous scholarly articles on literary subjects.The news.
