Symposium on depression held

Rawalpindi:The people of Pakistan are suffering from depression due to multiple factors like extreme poverty, insecurity and media associated issues, said Foundation University Medical College Principal & Dean Major General Naseem-ul-Majeed.

According to a press release issued here on Sunday, he stated this while addressing the opening session of a national symposium on ‘Depression’ organised by the Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) in collaboration with the Fauji Foundation Hospital & Foundation University Medical College, Rawalpindi.

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Rawalpindi-Islamabad Branch President Dr. Muhammad Arshad Rana said that depression is an acute problem and such conferences will be helpful in understanding co-morbidity management issue in treatment of depression in women and children and people from all walks of life.

Professor Rizwan Taj of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences & President Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS), on the occasion, said that the Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) should come up to meet complex mental health needs of population. “We, professionals, across the board need to join hands to help the suffering people of our country,” he added.

Shifa College of Medicine Principal Major General Muhammad Aslam, Pakistan Psychiatric Society (PPS) Vice President Professor Dr. Mazhar Malik and PPS Secretary General Professor Dr. Aziz ur Rehman Yousafzai also spoke on the occasion. The news.
