Rootsians excel in IKMC

Rawalpindi:Roots School System has announced the result of International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest 2011, released by the Pakistan Kangaroo Commission. Roots Students have been the pioneer participants in IKMC since it was introduced in Pakistan six years ago.

Each year Rootsians clinch maximum medals and awards in all the levels i.e. Ecolier, Benjamin, cadet, junior and student. This year nearly 1,157 students from Roots School System nationwide participated in the examination. All students have scored 100 per cent pass percentage and almost bagged top 50 positions amongst 6,913 candidates in Pakistan. Roots School System clinched 3 Gold Medals, 13 Silver Medals and 70 Bronze Medals in IKMC 2011.

Gold Medals winners were: Omar Farooq student of O levels, RSS DHA-I Campus Islamabad, Khadeeja Mashood of RSS, 34 Civil Lines Branch, Rawalpindi and Raheen Sheraz of RSS, 76/3 Harley Street Branch, Rawalpindi. Student Omar Farooq was also selected from entire country to represent Pakistan in Romania.

Rootsians have also topped in their respective districts by winning silver medals i.e. Roots Lahore, Abbotabad, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Islamabad Region. Silver Medals winners were Fareha Ali and Nimra Bilal from RSS Lahore, Noor ul Hadi Ali from RSS Abbotabad, Ayesha Hameed, Noor-ul-Huda Sheikh from RSS Muzaffarabad, Hifza Ehsan, M. Sarmad Naeem Mir, Rida Fayyaz from RSS Mirpur, Hassan Ali Shah from RSS Peshawar, Fizza Jamil Rao, Najib Ishaq from RSS Rawalpindi & M. Shafin Waqar, Arooj Naveed from RSS Islamabad Region.

The contest s main purpose is to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in math by providing students with an opportunity to compare their abilities against the abilities of other students from different countries around the world. In Pakistan, the competition was first organized in 2005 by the Pakistan kangaroo Commission.
