Second shift at Daanish schools may be considered: Shahbaz

LAHORE:Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that students of Daanish schools will prove Pakistanis in the real sense and play an active role in the development of the country and service of the masses.

He was presiding over 7th meeting of Daanish Schools Authority here on Thursday. Members Provincial Assembly Zaib Jaffar, Rana Muhammad Afzal, Maj(r) Abdul Rehman, the chief secretary, the Senior Member Board of Revenue, the secretaries of Schools and Finance, the Daanish Schools Authority vice-chairman, the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund vice-chairman and other members of the authority attended the meeting.

The chief minister said the setting up of Daanish schools in backward and far-flung areas would result in promotion of education in the area. If, on the one hand, Daanish schools were imparting modern knowledge to the children of poor segments of the society, it, on the other hand, would also make them feel that they too had equal right on the resources of resources like the children of the children. He said that six Daanish schools were imparting modern education to the students in Bahawalpur Division while eight more schools would be set up in Attock, Mianwali, Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan during current year.

Giving approval in principle to a special quota for the students of other provinces in Daanish schools, the chief minister said that it would promote national solidarity and brotherhood in accordance with the policy of the Punjab government.

The CM said that Pakistan was created for the purpose of ensuring equal rights to all citizens but, while a handful of elite enjoyed all privileges during the last 64 years, the majority of people had been deprived of even basic facilities. He said that the poor were shedding their sweat and blood for national development and progress and it was the responsibility of the society to ensure due returns to them for their labour. He said that entire credit for bringing the deprived segments of the society into national mainstream went to the PML-N which had diverted resources to the marginalized classes and less-developed areas.

Issuing instructions for giving a final shape to the financial model of Daanish schools as soon as possible, Shahbaz Sharif issued directions to induct such individuals in the board of governors of the schools who had an urge to serve the country and equip the new generation with modern education. He said that retired teachers, judges, civil servants and the best individuals from various sectors of life should be selected for the purpose, but it should be ensured that bureaucracy and political influence should not have any interference in the management of the schools.

He also issued instructions for conducting performance audit of the teachers and students of Daanish schools. He said that discipline in students was of vital importance and the students should be trained on proper lines to help them groom their personality. He said that Pakistan was a poor country and the government had limited resources, therefore, it could not afford extravagant expenditure.

He said that six Daanish schools had been set up and, in the light of the experience in the construction of Daanish schools, measures should be adopted for curtailing cost of construction of new schools. However, no compromise should be accepted on the quality and standard, he said, issuing instructions for taking immediate steps for construction of mosques in Daanish schools. He said the administration of the mosques should be completely free of sectarian prejudices and educate the students in the Quran and Hadith.

He also directed the authorities concerned to consider starting second shift in Daanish schools and give recommendations in this regard in the next meeting. He said that financial assistance was being extended to talented students facing economic problems from the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, and student of all the four provinces and Azad Kashmir were benefiting from the fund. He said that the fund had been set up with a sum of four billion rupees and an amount of two billion rupees was being added to the fund every year.

He said that establishment of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund was a revolutionary step for the uplift of education sector and was helping talented students complete their education, therefore, it should continue. He said that quota for the students of other provinces should also be reserved in Daanish schools for promotion of national solidarity and brotherhood and a policy should soon be evolved for the purpose. He said that five percent quota had already been allocated for students of Cholistan in the schools.

He said that students of other provinces were also included in the Punjab government program sending position-holders of the province to the prestigious universities of the world. Now a quota should be reserved in Daanish schools for students of other provinces as well, he said.

He commended the services of Daanish Schools Project managing director Yousaf Kamal and other members of the authority and said that they were engaged in a noble cause.
