Aid refusal not to affect education, health sectors CM LAHORE
CHIEF Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that in order to achieve genuine economic and political independence, foreign aid will have to be given up. Therefore, the biggest province of Pakistan has decided to break the begging bowl and it is the desire of every Pakistani, he added. He said that no nation could prosper with foreign aid. He said that the elite had benefited from the foreign aid and now they would have to make sacrifices. He said, “Funds for education and health sectors will not be reduced as a result of our decision to shun foreign assistance and new resources will be generated.”
The chief minister said this during separate meetings with assembly members of various districts and party workers here Wednesday. He said that history was witnessed to the fact that several nations had made rapid progress by dint of hard work, honesty and commitment and development of indigenous resources. He said that the nature had blessed Pakistan with vast natural resources which could be developed for achieving self-sufficiency. He said that it was the time to prove to the world that the living nations could survive and prosper without foreign charities. He said that the historic decision taken by the Punjab government to get rid of foreign assistance was an important step towards achievement of genuine freedom. He said that no additional burden would be put on the poor but the elite would have to demonstrate a spirit of sacrifice and take practical steps. He said that Punjab government had promoted culture of austerity in the province and reduced non-developmental expenditure and further steps would be taken. He said that four core groups had been set up for the promotion of austerity which would soon submit the recommendations for evolving a strategy in this regard. He said the Punjab government led by PML-N Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was implementing a comprehensive programme for the progress and prosperity and provision of basic amenities to the masses. He said that all-out resources were being utilised for the provision of health, education, water supply and other basic facilities to the people. He said that Aashiyana Housing Project, Daanish Schools, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund and mobile health units were such revolutionary programmes of Punjab government from which poor people were benefiting. He said the party workers were an asset to the party leadership and the welfare programmes were being launched with their consultation. He asked the assembly members to keep close liaison with the masses and leave no stone unturned for resolution of their problems.
