Peedac Pty Ltd will provide pre-employment training, mentoring and support for up to 100 Indigenous Australians thanks to the Australian Government’s Indigenous Employment Program.
Minister for Indigenous Employment and Economic Development Mark Arbib today met with senior representatives from Peedac who have been involved in delivering Indigenous employment programs in Perth and the Midlands-Wheatbelt region since 2001.
“Peedac’s current program involves assisting the most disadvantaged job seekers in preparation for pre-employment training and full-time work. This involves goal setting, time management and adjusting to the full-time work environment,” Senator Arbib said.
“This training is extremely important to the 100 participants as it improves their chances of of committing to and keeping long term full-time jobs.
“The program has been assisted through Federal Government IEP with funding of more than $1.5 million this year.”
Senator Arbib said Peedac had done an outstanding job in providing employment programs to Indigenous Australians.
“Peedac have worked for a decade to deliver Indigenous employment programs to some of Western Australia’s most disadvantaged job seekers,” Senator Arbib said.
“It is great to have the opportunity to meet the people who work tirelessly to provide pre-employment training, support job seekers and provide employment services through Job Services Australia.”
Senator Arbib said Treasury predicted 500 000 jobs would be created over the next two years and it was critical that Indigenous Australians had the support and training they needed to take up employment.
“Indigenous employment is not a short term issue, over the next four years the Government has also committed almost $650 million to the Indigenous Employment Program,” Senator Arbib said.
“This is part of the Gillard Government’s target to create more than 100 000 jobs for Indigenous Australians by 2018.”
