Literary, cultural conference ends
LAHORE THREE important sessions on literature, art and music were held on the last day of a three-day Alhamra International Literary and Cultural Conference-2011, at Alhamra Arts Council, The Mall, on Monday evening.
The first session revolved around the topic of “100 Years of Urdu Short Story.” Noted writer, novelist and critic Intizar Hussain presided over this session while Shamim Hanif was the chief guest. Renowned writers expressed their views on various topics. The main address in the session was delivered by Dr Tehseen Firaqi. Prominent singer Reshma presided over the second session which was on “Folk Music in Pakistan.” Reshma also enthralled the participants by her performance. Ahsan Shahid, an ardent fan of Reshma, presented Rs 20,000 to the legendary folk singer. Lahore Arts Council Chairman Atta Ul Haq Qasmi announced Rs 50,000 for her.
Various writers, scholars, renowned professionals and singers, included Masood Asher, Dr Saleem Akhtar, Muhammad Munsha Yaad, Zahida Hina, Arif Lohar, Atta Ullah Essa Khailwi, Nayyar Ali Dada and Aqeel Abbass Jaffery, presented their views on the topic of “The Role of State in the Promotion of Art.”
Lahore Arts Council Chairman Atta Ul Haq Qasmi also presented shields to the participants of the conference, including the Indian delegates. A music session was also organised wherein Hamid Ali Khan, Arif Lohar, Sanam Marvi and Munir Khatoon enthralled the audience.The news
