NTU varsity seals hostels after students' clash
Faisalabad: The National Textile University administration on Friday night sealed all its hostels and got registered a case against more than 250 students on the charge of damaging the university property during a clash.
The administration has also rescheduled the bachelor's degree examinations. Now the exams will commence on May 3 and some papers fixed for May 2 will be held on May 8.
Two groups of students clashed on the campus on Friday over the parking of a vehicle as a result of which five students suffered injuries. The students, who used clubs and sticks, also damaged the university property and broke the windowpanes of the main library. The administration tried to pacify them but all in vain.
The administration sealed the three hostels - two for boys and one for girls ? and had to call the police on resistance.
Of the 1,350 students enrolled in the university, as many as 550 are availing themselves of the hostel facility on the campus.
The Disciplinary Advisory Committee got footages of CCTV cameras and decided to take action against 28 of the students.
The Millat Town police registered a case under sections 380, 341, 427, 149, 148 of PPC and arrested Adeel Usman, Abdul Quddus, Umair Ameen, Muhammad Hassan, Hafiz Suleman, Zobair Hassan, Fakher Hayat, Sarwar Mansoor, Faisal Nasir, Fida Ahmed, Muhammad Ahsan and Sami Arshad.
Sources said the administration had called the parents of the students and issued them warning.
The decision of rescheduling the examination was taken at the University Management Committee which rescheduled one paper. It will be held on May 8 instead of May 2. UVAS marks World Veterinary Day
Lahore: A large number of veterinary students and experts taking out a rally at University of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (UVAS) observed World Veterinary Day on Saturday.
The walk was organised by the varsity to create awareness among general public on the current situation of rabies disease. The participants carrying banners and placards also chanted slogans.
The varsity veterinarians also examined animals and pets and gave free of cost medicine at the UVAS out door hospital and pet centre on the occasion.
According to UVAS Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, rabies is a killer disease but it can be prevented through proper vaccination. He also said 1,500 rabies exposure cases had been reported by Institute of Public Health (IPH) in Lahore, 95 percent cases caused by dog bite.
Prof Nasim stressed that the veterinarians should play a vital role in developing link between animals and their owners. He also advised the veterinarians to work for animal welfare, public health, food safety and food security.
Two-day event of NUTECH concludes
Peshawar: NUTECH 2011, a two-day annual event arranged at the Fast National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences campus in Hayatabad here concluded on Sunday.
An awards distribution ceremony was held on conclusion of the event. Thirteen teams were awarded prizes, shields and certificates for their outstanding performance. Director of the Fast National University of Computer and Emerging Science Peshawar Campus Dr Ghiasul Haq spoke on the occasion and appreciated the hard work of organisers and participants.
