Rawalpindi students tributes to Faiz Ahmed Faiz

Nation needs to continue Faiz’s approach Rawalpindi Paying rich tributes to Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Fatima Jinnah Women University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Samina Amin Qadir said that he was the prosperous man having the quality of a poet, visionary leader, philosopher, as well as a good journalist at the same time.
She was addressing a ceremony titled ‘A Faiz Evening’ that was arranged by the FJWU’s Department of English in collaboration with Asian Study Group (Literature Section).

Akhtar Aziz, Lecturer, Department of English, furnished a glimpse of Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s life and his work. He presented several versus of Fiaz Ahmed Faiz as a tribute.

“Faiz Ahmed Faiz was and is to be considered one of the most famous modern Urdu poets, though his writings are also in Punjabi,” he said. He also presented the major publication of Faiz, which are ‘Naqsh-e-Faryadi’ (1943), ‘Dast-e-Saba’ (1952), ‘Zindan-Nama’ (1956), ‘Dast-e-Tah’ (1965), ‘Mere Dil Mere Musafir’ and ‘Sar-e-Wadi-e-Sina’. Professor Dr Nawazish Ali recited some verses of ‘Mujh se Pehli si Mohabbat’ to pay tributes to Faiz. He said, “We as a nation need to continue the optimistic approach, as he was the man of optimism.”

To bring back the audience in Faiz time, students of the Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies, Asia Altaf and Bachelor of Fine Arts, Anum Manshah, recited the famous poems ‘Mujh se Pehli si Mohabbat’, ‘Kahan Jao Ge’ and ‘Tanhai’ in English and Urdu.

Chairperson of Communication and Media Studies, Dr Shamim Zaidi, shared her two historic meetings with Faiz Ahmed Faiz. She said that the poet’s message of hope and peace will remain in the minds of Faiz’s lovers in all times.The news
