LAHORE:THE Punjab University (PU) on Friday once again came into limelight owing to tension at New Campus when Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) activists tried to hold a mock entrance test for prospective students.
PU administration did not allow the Jamiat activists to hold the event while police also reached the spot to thwart any untoward situation.
PU chapter IJT alleged the varsity administration of torturing its activists and students. However the allegation was rejected by the university administration.
In a press statement, a PU spokesman said the IJT could neither guide nor was capable of guiding the students seeking admissions to the university as they were political activists only.
“These activists neither read books nor have any tendency towards education. The administration, taking action in time, had stopped illegal activity in connection with entrance test”, reads the PU statement.
The spokesman alleged in the statement that the IJT activists were culprits and were involved in car and motorcycle theft incidents and the organization was playing an immoral role. The IJT hooligans are only fond of beating other students. He also cleared that security guards had not beaten any activist of IJT rather the activists misbehaved with teachers and abused the vice-chancellor.
The spokesman said IJT activists sent false SMSs to media persons to get their attention.
However, the IJT alleged that police and PU security guards tortured the students and Jamiat activists present on the occasion.
An IJT spokesman said it was unfortunate that the varsity administration was not allowing the Jamiat to hold positive and pro-education event on the campus. http://www.pu.edu.pk.the/ news.
