LAHORE:LAHORE College for Women University (LCWU) Vice Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor, chairing the first meeting after her appointment as the VC, on Friday shared a roadmap with heads of departments to upgrade the university.
According to a press statement, the VC expressed her determination to upgrade the LCWU to be listed among top 500 universities of the world. Dr Sabiha Mansoor said only a balanced education could counter the terrorism and extremism which was being faced by Pakistan as well as the world.
She said educationists must focus to produce moderate graduates bearing good moral character, harmony and flexible attitude. “It is more important to develop human resources than infrastructure”, she added.
The LCWU VC said she would find a role for women graduates in the development of the economy of the country. “It is a matter of grave concern that an army of girls is graduating from the university every year but a few of them go for jobs or directly contribute to the country’s economy,” she lamented.
Recognising that it will be a big challenge, the VC said that she would plan multiple strategies, including an Institute of Women’s Leadership and Development, wherein women’s issues would be identified and resolved.
Dr Sabiha said curriculum would also be revised to empower graduates to work in practical fields. She said there were 9,000 students on campus and the university would try to improve the quality of its products.
About the ever depleting middle class, she said a vibrant middle class could only be made by propelling economic and social development. She said women’s ratio in higher education was almost 45 percent but it was a disappointing fact that only three percent women jump into practical life. The news.
