The Ambassador of the Netherlands, Joost Reintjes, Wednesday, visited Islamabad Model School for Girls, G-7/1, to interact with the students and to stress the importance of girls education and the Dutch contribution towards it, says a press release.
The ambassador interacted with the young students and reiterated the importance of education for girls and how it would systematically help them in their adult lives. “Education is a first necessity for everything that you would like to achieve in life,” Reintjes said.
After the earthquake in 2005, The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands along with other donors has committed to reconstructing around 691 seismic resistant and child friendly schools to support the Government of Pakistan in the ‘Build Back Better’ programme. The majority of the permanent schools are now furnished, handed over and fully functional. The contribution by the Dutch Embassy, as the largest Donor in the consortium was a total of US$ 32 million for these schools in the earthquake affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan administered Kashmir.
In 2009 the Embassy also provided €10million for a five year programme to strengthen the education system in Balochistan. A major goal of this programme is to increase the number of girls enrolled in middle and high schools.
The Netherlands also work on the curriculum reform programmes at provincial and federal level - an estimated €4.5 million has been contributed for these programmes (2009-2012) -and on promoting early childhood education in various parts of the country for which € 9 million has been allocated for the period 2006-2011. The education programme at the Netherlands Embassy aims to contribute to the MDGs and the ‘Education for All’ goals in Pakistan while at the same time promoting tolerance and common understanding. The news Dutch Envoy Visits Islamabad Girls School
