YDAP welcomes pay raise by Punjab govt LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association Pakistan (YDAP) welcomed the announcement of a pay raise by the Punjab government and declared it as an immediate relief to the doctors’ community by the Punjab government, adding that although the package is not satisfactory, it is an excellent and timely decision by the Punjab government despite the financial constraints it is facing.
This was stated by the YDAP office-bearers Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Talha Sherwani, and Dr Khuda Bukhsh in a press briefing at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday. They further said that the other faction of the YDAP had more than 20 meetings with the government but they were unable to break the deadlock while “we only had one single meeting with the cabinet committee along with Punjab Medical Association, medical teachers, paramedics and nurses and the issue was resolved.”
The YDAP officials further said that they had also managed to raise the stipend of officers from Rs 18,000 to Rs 24,000, PGs from Rs 22,500 to Rs 42,500 and medical officers by Rs 15,000 along with Rs 3300, which would be implemented from July 1. The government has formed a committee to bring the doctors out of the national pay scale and YDAP is a part of the negotiations and it hopes that it would be able win that too for the doctors’ community, the officials noted.
The YDAP had demanded the private medical colleges as well as private hospitals to announce a pay raise at private hospitals as announced by the Punjab government. They said, “YDAP is a non-political organisation and we had neither demanded change of bureaucrats nor did we want to destabilise the Punjab government.” The YDAP also demanded the political leaders and the chief ministers of other provinces to announce a similar pay package for their provinces too. They said, “We established the YDAP in July 2008 from the Mayo Hospital and we have always stood for the rights of the doctors community.”Daily times
