GCU turns 148 years old
LAHORE
GOVERNMENT College University (GCU), Lahore, the oldest seat of learning in Pakistan and former the Government College, turned 148 years old on Sunday.
It was established as a college in the Haveli of Dhian Singh in the Walled City on January 1, 1864. According to a press statement, the present gothic-style majestic building of the GCU, Lahore, was completed in 1877 on 3,700 square feet in the north of Soldiers Garden (Gol Bagh) at a cost of Rs320,000.
