The first new grammar school for 50 years could be opened amid growing parental demand for selective education, it emerged today.
Conservative-controlled Kent Council is considering plans to take advantage of new Government powers to expand the number of academically selective places in the county, it was revealed.
Entirely new grammar schools are banned but Coalition reforms allow existing schools to grow in areas with the greatest demand.
