Hundreds of contractual doctors and paramedical staff of government-run hospitals began an indefinite protest on Thursday against the non-payment of their salaries and the non-regularisation of their jobs, resulting in the closure of two major hospitals, the blockage of a number of main roads and the ransacking of the Civic Centre.
