Ofqual announces GCSE English plan

Under the proposals written exams will make up 60% of the overall GCSE grade The speaking and listening element of GCSE English will no longer form part of the overall grade, under proposals from England's exams regulator Ofqual.

<P>The move follows concerns that over-generous marking of speaking and listening tests by teachers contributed to last year's GCSE English debacle.</P>
