Lahoris busy in purchasing gifts, cards and flowers for Mother’s Day,

City prepares to mark Mother’s Day today
LAHORE: Lahoris were seen busy in purchasing gifts, cards and
flowers on Saturday for Mother’s Day, which will be celebrated today (Sunday).
Like every year, the day will be marked with enthusiasm and public and private organisations, as well as schools will arrange various fun-filled programmes in connection with Mother’s Day celebrations. A number of events have been scheduled across the city to celebrate the event. Various plays and shows were broadcast by TV channels to highlight the importance of the day and to recognise the amazing role mothers’ play in a child’s life.
Mothers act as a guiding force and are responsible for developing the character and personality of a child. They shape the lives of children and Mother’s Day gives children the opportunity to pay tribute to them for their contribution.
There are different stories about the history of the day, but the earliest Mother’s Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations honouring Rhea, mother of the gods, in ancient Greece. Also during the 1600s, England’s unprivileged, who worked as servants for the wealthy, were encouraged to go back home and spend a Sunday with their mothers.
A citizen, Iman, while purchasing flowers at a market told Daily Times that “Flowers and a card will make my mom very happy”. She said, “I really want to make my mother happy because I do not do much for her. But, I know that mothers love their children no matter what they do, so I am just trying to show a little of the great love I have for her.”
“Mother’s Day is celebrated on different days in the world. But whatever may be the date around the world, the spirit is the same everywhere,” said a student of Masters, Amna. She added that everywhere in the world mothers are respected for their extreme devotion towards their kids.
Shopkeepers told this scribe that most of the customers were young girls and only a few number of males bought cards or presents for their mothers.Daily times
