So-called facilitating subjects feature in a new school league table measure The Russell Group has been asked to produce research on what subjects teenagers need to get in to their universities, after a study cast doubt on so-called "preferred subjects".
The call comes from Graham Stuart, the chairman of the Commons Education Select Committee.
He says applicants should not be "short-changed by incomplete or inaccurate advice".
The group lists certain A-levels as good for keeping options
