Report highlights gas hydrate resource potential

KARACHI,Pakistan needs to initiate efforts to develop natural gas hydrate as an energy source, a subject currently being explored by a number of countries, says a paper that identifies the potential gas hydrate zone along the Makran coast.

The Makran subduction zone south of Pakistan, according to the paper, has a high potential for methane generation due to a sediment thickness of seven kilometres. “The subduction had pushed up a series of accretionary ridges,” it says.
