REVIEW: Mutiny at the Margins

Apparently, the British have got over their memory of imperial romance. The 1857 War of Independence is now being treated scientifically, as evidenced by the essays written by British and Indian historians in Mutiny at the Margins: New Perspectives on the Indian Uprising of 1857, spread over seven volumes.



The British refused for long to recognise the war as an armed struggle for national liberation, insisting on treating it as a silly affair in which, according to them, Indian soldiers
