PESHAWAR: Lauding the security personnel for foiling an attack on the Iranian Consulate here in the University Town, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nasir Khan Durrani on Tuesday said that 57 attacks were thwarted and 282 bombs were defused by the police during the last six months.
“Seventy-nine cops were killed while fighting militants and criminals during the past six months. We have traced 129 cases during the last four months, arrested 144 terrorists and killed 25 others in encounters,” he told a press conference at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.
He added that the provincial government would be asked to announce head-money for the accomplices of those involved in terrorism.IGP Nasir Durrani said that clearing the explosives-packed vehicle parked outside the Iranian Consulate was not an easy job. “After the Frontier Constabulary men thwarted the suicide attack, the brave experts of the bomb disposal unit (BDU) defused the explosives that would not only have caused casualties but its impact would have been stronger had it hit the diplomatic mission,” the provincial police chief added. He said the explosives were also packed in the gas cylinder kit of the vehicle.
