A comic people loved to be ridiculed by her act at Karachi Literature Festival,

KARACHI: “We are racists, right?” said standup comedian and host Beo Zafar, before her act at Karachi Literature Festival, and everyone nodded smilingly. That’s the kind of effect she had on people at one of the sessions.

Television host and anchor Ali Saleem introduced Zafar, calling her “one of the best comedians” he had met, and showed an interest in working with her in the future.

With impromptu jokes and impersonations of every ethnicity possible, Beo was appearing for the second time at the KLF and that too on popular demand. Most people already knew the name of the characters she was going to portray. Right from a Memon, Razzaq Bhai, who asked his wife not to make a chappati for him, while falling down a 10-storey building, to a Pathan robber, who after robbing a bank asked the cashier to open his account in the same bank, the jokes were endless. If the jokes sounded racist and at times slapstick, nobody cared, rather raised hands to reveal their ethnicity, requesting her to laugh at them too.
