Art and valentine 28 in search of valentines held

KARACHI: It is not difficult to associate Valentine’s Day with art because all art is essentially about aesthetics and the aesthetic sense mainly manifests itself in love, but it came as a pleasant surprise when the Grandeur Art Gallery termed an exhibition that commenced on Thursday ‘Valentine Show’.

Artworks by 10 artists, all of whom are known names, are on display.

Omar Farid is not discussed in the art circles as much as he deserves. He is one of the very few artists in Pakistan who don’t give a hoot about what the buyer wants. He paints what he feels like painting. His work on display at Grandeur is no different. The swirls and lines assume shapes that are readily identifiable and yet the viewer tends to understand them for their surrealistic worth.Farrukh Shahab brings the spiritual dimension into the show. He too is slowly but surely becoming an artist who’s difficult to ignore. His work remains etched in memory. The figure that he makes, often variations of his own self, depict a majzoob or a similar entity trapped in contemporary world.

Ather Jamal goes for a simpler and equally effective option. The woman with a matka may be a simplistic way to represent rustic life, but the artist imparts a lifetime to a solitary moment by making the subject look straight at the viewer, thereby telling her entire story without uttering a word.

Abrar Ahmad’s fascination with the female form continues, and thankfully so. The women he draws are getting dour by the day, and yet you can’t help noticing the fact that it’s lending more vibrancy to his art.

The other participating artists are Rind, Sadiq Hussain, Akram Spaul, Mashkoor Raza, Inam Raja and Wahab Jaffer, all of whom are seasoned artists and their work is always inspiring to see.

The show will continue till Feb 23.

FAISALABAD: Carrying roses and red costumes for celebration of Valentine’s Day cost over two dozen youngsters dearly on Friday.

The police took the youngsters into custody outside the Government Girls College University, Madina Town.

Parents and head of the institution had complained to the police that a number of youngsters had been making noise outside the institution. Responding to the calls, the police launched an operation and arrested 28 revellers.
