NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday approved the establishment of Education City at Azakhel Park in Nowshera district.
Secretary for Higher Education Farah Hamid, Chief Minister’s Principal Staff Officer Amir Khattak, Additional Secretary for Law Muhammad Israr, Additional Secretary for Local Government Zareeful Mani, Registrar of the University of Peshawar Fazle Hadi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Khwaja Sikandar Zeeshan and officials of the Pakistan Air Force visited Azakhel Park and Botanical Garden and held a meeting there.
Speaking at the meeting, University of Peshawar Registrar Fazle Hadi said that 689 kanals land had been leased for Botanical Garden where scientists were conducting research on plants.
Registrar Fazle Hadi claimed that the garden was an international level research facility of the university.Additional Deputy Commissioner Khwaja Sikandar Zeeshan said that former district nazim had given the property of the district government to the University of Peshawar for establishing the garden on a nominal lease of Rs5,000 annually. However, he claimed that the university had not paid the lease amount to the district.
The official said it had also been agreed that the university would inform the district or provincial government before undertaking development work at the facility, but it had not done so. He said that only 77 kanals land had been used for the garden while the rest of the land was without any use.
The representatives of the Air University demanded allocation of 300 kanals land for establishing the university while 150 kanals would be provided for the botanical garden and 200 kanals for the establishment of Technical University.
