LAHORE THE element of entertainment in any culture must be cherished and welcomed. The atrocities committed in the name of culture are not only inhuman but highly condemnable.
This was the consensus among speakers at a session “Our Culture and Foreign Influence” on the concluding day of the Lahore Literary Festival (LLF) 2014 at Alhamra Arts Centre here Sunday.
Celebrated literary figures, including Intizar Hussain, Fehmida Riaz, Asif Farrukhi and journalist Khaled Ahmed were the speakers while columnist Masud Ashar conducted the session. Intizar Hussain said in Pakistan any influence on culture was considered infidelity and foreign intervention.
Asif Farrukhi said the origin of the term “foreign influence” was yet to be traced like the “unknown people” as reported in the incidents of violence. He said the element of entertainment was very important in culture and the same should be cherished and welcomed. Fehmida Riaz spoke about atrocities committed in the name of culture and termed the same inhuman and highly condemnable. Khaled Ahmed said the process of creativity was exhibited through culture.
