Highest yield contest Applications sought from wheat growers
OKARA: The Agriculture Department (Extension) has demanded applications from wheat growers for the highest yield contest.
DO Agriculture Extension Farooq Javed told The News that the winner would be awarded a tractor, while the runners-up would get a laser land leveller and the third position holder will get an automatic wheat thresher at the district level. He disclosed that at the tehsil level, the winner would get a wheat reaper, while the second position holder would get seed-cum-fertilizers drill. He said that the applications should reach the Agriculture Officer or the District Deputy Officer Agriculture Extension by February 28.
4 BOOTLEGGERS HELD: The police claimed to have arrested four bootleggers and recovered a huge quantity of liquor for them.
On a tip-off, the B-Division police arrested Nadeem Masih and Amir Masih of 10/4L Village and recovered with 60 litres of liquor from them. The Depalpur City police arrested Nazir Masih of Christian Colony and recovered 30 litres of liquor. The Hujra Shah Muqeem police arrested Muhammad Siddique alias Kali and recovered 25 litres of liquor from him.
3 DACOITS HELD: The police claimed to have arrested three dacoits hiding behind the bushes.
On a tip-off, the Depalpur Sadr police raided a place at Ladhewal village and arrested Muhammad Saleem Oad of 35/D village, Muhammad Akbar Oad of 84/D village and Ghulam Mustafa Rajput of Manga Mandi with weapons. However, their two accomplices Piran Ditta and Arshad managed to escape.
3 HELD FOR DIESEL THEFT: The Basirpur police have arrested three employees of a cell phone company on the charge of stealing diesel worth Rs 2,280,000.
Allah Ditta, Muhammad Asghar and Mirza Adil were employed at a tower and had been stealing diesel.
Boy crushed to death

OKARA: A 12-year-old boy was crushed to death by a pick-up Jalalpur Chowk near Depalpur.
Amin who worked as labourer was crossing a road when the pick-up hit him. He died on the spot. The Depalpur Sadr police have registered a case.
