Iran sign MoU to foster science relations with International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (KU),

KARACHI: The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (KU), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Iranian Research Organisation for Science, and Technology (IROST), Iran to foster cooperation in chemical and biological sciences between the two countries. The MoU was signed in Iran in the recent visit by Director ICCBS Prof Dr M Iqbal Chaudhry. Chaudhry and President of IROST-Iran Professor Ahmad Akbari signed the MoU on behalf of their institutions. As per the agreement, both the institutions have agreed to enhance relations between the two universities and to develop academic exchange in the area of education and research, and have agreed to identify team members to work on joint research projects. As per the MoU, bi-institutional meeting will be held annually in form of workshop/seminar/ conference jointly organised by the parties. The IROST chief said that his institution is considered one of the most leading institutions in Iran, where scientists are engaged day and night in their research activities. Chaudhry said that both the institutions will mostly focus in industrial technologies, including biotechnology, nanotechnology, and herbal medicine. He said that the collaborative activities to be covered by this agreement may include faculty and research staff exchanges, study abroad programme, collaborative research programmes, including the exchange of voucher samples, and natural product extracts; joint seminars, workshops, and service programmes. This agreement will be in effect for a period of five years from the date of execution and may be extended by mutual agreement in writing by both parties, he said.
