Officials create fund for scholarship to Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies University of Peshawar IPCS students

PESHAWAR: Officers of the Local Government and Rural Development Department in grade-17 & above contributed from their pockets Rs2.5 million to create an Endowment Fund to provide one scholarship a year to a student of the newly-established Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies University of Peshawar.

The amount was handed over to the Higher Education Department, government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for onward transfer to IPCS, the secretary local government department said.The institute, first of its kind in Pakistan, will be completed in 18 months at a cost of Rs120 million. The institute, a brainchild of the Local Government Department and conceived in 2009, aims at encouraging research to find ways and means, modalities and approaches towards peaceful settlement of disputes, introduce peace studies in view of the emerging situation in and around KP and provide a platform for debate and commemorate peace heroes.
