Open-air transport museum pleases visitors National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa),

ISLAMABAD: The open-air transport museum, an innovative idea of the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa), is attracting a lot of visitors.

The open museum is created in front of the Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology (Heritage Museum). The museum displays were renovated in January. The museum presents a full size truck, a traditional houseboat from Manchar Lake of Sindh, a tonga with horse, a bullock cart with two bulls and a wooden baradari from the Swat valley. All these displays decorated with traditional paraphernalia look real, and visitors are compelled to appraise them.
A young visitor, Ali Hassan, who came with his class fellows from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was delighted to see cultural displays at the Lok Virsa. “Lok Virsa always brings a new idea for the masses. This museum is an asset for us but people do not bother to take care of these things created for us.” Another visitor, Saira Khan, said, “I have seen some visitors here who were sitting over fibre glass camels displayed for decoration purposes without realising that they can be damaged.” We should cooperate with security staff instead of quarrelling with them, she said.
