PESHAWAR: World’s Cancer Day Seminar was arranged by Society for Undergraduate Medical Research (SUMR) at Qurtuba University Peshawar. The speakers in the seminar were Chief Editor of Journal Post Graduate Medical Institute Dr Irfan Ahmed, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research CentreDr Afshan Hussain Khattak, Peshawar Medical College Dr Farhat Rehana Malik, Cancer Support Group Dr Sheraz Ahmed and Peshawar Medical College Muhammad Salman Qureshi. They speakers said that many cancers could be prevented by avoiding exposure to common risk factors. In addition, a significant proportion of cancers could be cured, by surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, especially if they were detected early. Health experts said early detection of cancer greatly increases the chances for successful treatment. Scientific Photography Contest and Poster Contest were also organized in which students from various eminent institutes of Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, Haripur, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Wah Cantt, Lahore, Jamshoro, Peshawar, Topi, Bhakkar and Karachi participated.
