Suicide bomber targets Rangers wing commander’s vehicle in Karachi, two injured

The TTP has recently stepped up its campaign against security forces in Karachi.

KARACHI (Web Desk) – A suicide bomber targeted Rangers wing commander’s vehicle in Qayyumabad area, injuring two people, Dunya News reported on Friday.

Fortunately, Rangers’ senior official remained safe in the attack.

Meanwhile, security officials arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area and road from Defence to Qayyumabad was closed for traffic.

Some body parts were found from the explosion site, indicating that it was a suicide attack.

The attack was the 12th since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced talks on January 29 and said he wants to “give peace another chance”.

The incident came a day after a Taliban suicide bomber killed 13 police personnel and injured more than 40 in Shah Latif Town area.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Shahidullah Shahid claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a revenge attack for the killing of militants.

Pakistan has endured a bloody start to the year with 114 people killed in attacks in January, according to an AFP tally.

On Wednesday militants stormed a house of anti-Taliban activists and shot dead nine men in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

On Tuesday a triple grenade attack on a cinema in Peshawar killed 13 people.

Both government and militants says they are serious about peace talks but analysts remain sceptical about their chances of success.

Provincial officials vowed the bombing would not deter their campaign to root out criminals and terrorists.
