Defiance of court order SHC issues show-cause notice to Sindh Madressatul Islam Universitys (SMIU) VC

KARACHI (PPI): Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to Sindh Madressatul Islam Universitys (SMIU) vice chancellor for contempt of court over his failure to comply with court order regarding consideration of case of its employees for regularization.
A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar issued show-cause notice on contempt of court application filed by Akbar Ali Chandio and other contractual employees seeking contempt of court proceedings against SMUI VC for not obeying the court order regarding consideration of their cases for permanent employment.

Applicants submitted that they were appointed as lecturers/teachers on contract in SMIU, Karachi. Their contract was extended from time to time but their services were not regularized despite the issuance of clear directions by the court to VC to consider them for regularization. Hence, they requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against varsity administration. Earlier, SHC bench had gave last chance to SMIC VC for compliance of its order when VCs lawyer Khalid Javed requested the court that one more opportunity may be given to the alleged contemnor to place the petitioners case before the selection board.
Javed gave an undertaking that the selection boards meeting would be convened within two weeks and the petitioners case considered in terms of the order passed by the court.
